Great change of pace and a ton of fun. Got to see the amazing caverns and some friendly cows along the way. Not your typical run making it more enjoyable than running on the road! 4th event with personal best events and they are always kind and professional!
Thank you for a well produced and managed race! Great course markings and finishing medals!!
Wow! Simply Put... Wow! The cave tour was absolutely amazing, race organization was just incredibly professional as expected, and then the course was both fun and challenging:) Running in the cave was just something I never thought I'd ever get to do and the views were well worth the price of entering the race. Chip timing began at the lower level of the cave and then we were able to run through the narrow and low pathways over to the colossal opening which afforded us an amazing view of a "living" cave:) Then we had the challenging of briskly walking up to the elevated exit which helped to warm-up those running muscles just before exiting to a shocking change in temperature-from 72deg over to 33deg but that was just fine as we were already plenty warmed up. The course then went via pavement, asphalt, golf cart paths, hill country caliche that included hills along with well-covered cattle guards. The views of the hill country were absolutely spectacular and then the race culminated back over to the finish line where we were greeted and cheered upon by a mass of race organizers and volunteers:) Results were immediate as all one needed to do was type in the bib number and you knew right away how you'd done:) And you could do this as often as you wanted in order to check how your age-level rank had fluctuated as more and more runners crossed the finish line:) I will definitely recommend this race to family and friends:) Thank you so much for making this unique experience one that I will talk about with my running friends and family:) Redemption Race Productions absolutely delivered everything they promised! My hat goes off to them :)
This was my first half marathon. I have run several 5K, 10K and 15K with other race organizers and have volunteered at other races in the San Antonio area including the Bandera 100k. I'm older, newer to running, and not very fast, and when I arrived at the finish line, they were doing awards, so no one was really paying much attention to who was coming through at that point. I have to admit, I was glad to be done! I saw someone manually note my time as I came across the line as it appeared they had no tracking equipment like at the other runs I have been to. They had apparently run out of medals, so I was told to select from some agate slices that they had put on a generic black ribbon. This run was one of the most expensive ones I've done, and I didn't get the medal with the year and race on it that I saw many other people wearing. The agate was pretty, but I gotta say I was a little disappointed about that. I guess they didn't order enough medals - or shirts - I heard them tell people that they were out of shirts. I did get a shirt, since I'd signed up before the cutoff. The best part of this run was the trail. It was scenic and beautiful. It was a great way to spend the morning. The trail was technical in spots, but unless you're Jim Walmsley or equivalent, you ain't running up or down some of the steep spots on the gravel trail unless you want to fall and bust your face. The run started in the cave, which was cool, and then was on pavement for a short way at the beginning and end, but the majority of the run was on dirt jeep trails. It passed by an old homestead and an old barn and a river bottom where the temperature seemed to drop fifteen degrees and I just about froze down there. The weather was very good otherwise. I'd do it again for the scenery, but the organizers should make sure that they have medals for everyone who signs up, considering how much this run costs, even for us old and slow people who come in after the 3-hour mark.
